What is a Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus replatform?

A Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus replatform moves an enterprise storefront off SFCC onto Shopify Plus, usually to reduce total cost of ownership and shorten release cycles. SFCC's site-genesis or SFRA templates, cartridges, and Business Manager configuration have no direct Shopify counterpart, so promotions, pricebooks, and custom logic are rebuilt using Shopify Functions, metafields, and apps. The decisive constraints are contractual and integration-related: SFCC agreements are multi-year, and enterprise ERP, OMS, and PIM connections must be rebuilt against Shopify's APIs before cutover.

Enterprise bloat is slowing you down.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is powerful, but the astronomical licensing fees, rigid architecture, and the necessity to hire specialized developers for minor changes are throttling your agility and eating into your margins.

How we move stores off Salesforce Commerce Cloud

  1. Catalogue and site architecture mapping: SFCC models catalogues, price books, inventory lists and sites in ways Shopify does not replicate one-to-one. Master and variation products, shared catalogues across sites, and price book hierarchies each need an explicit mapping decision before data moves.
  2. Cartridge and customisation audit: SFCC behaviour lives in cartridges and controllers. Each piece of custom functionality is assessed for whether it becomes a native Shopify feature, a Shopify Function, an app, or something the business stops doing. Enterprise SFCC stores usually carry more custom logic than anyone has documented.
  3. Integration inventory: Commerce Cloud implementations are typically wired into OMS, ERP, PIM, tax, and customer service systems. Each integration is re-established against Shopify's APIs, and the ones that exist only because SFCC could not do something natively are removed rather than rebuilt.
  4. Data migration and redirect mapping: Products, customers, order history and content move in reconciled passes. SFCC URL structures differ from Shopify's fixed prefixes, so every indexed URL is mapped to a single destination in one hop, built from crawl and Search Console data rather than a catalogue export.
  5. Phased launch: Multi-site SFCC estates rarely move in one release. We sequence by market or brand so each cutover is recoverable, and monitor coverage, logs and rankings between phases.

Enterprise Migration Services FAQs

Why do enterprises move from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus?

The reasons we hear most are cost structure and speed of change. SFCC is typically priced against gross merchandise value, so the platform cost scales with success, and the implementation model means many changes require development cycles. Shopify Plus has a more predictable fee and a shorter path from decision to live change. Whether that trade favours you depends on how much genuinely bespoke commerce logic you run.

Can Shopify Plus handle enterprise scale?

For the large majority of catalogues and traffic profiles, yes — Shopify operates the infrastructure, including peak events. The real constraint is not throughput but customisation model: logic that SFCC lets you write anywhere in the request lifecycle has to be expressed through Shopify Functions, apps and checkout extensions instead. Scoping that translation honestly is the whole job.

What about our Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud?

Leaving Commerce Cloud does not mean leaving the Salesforce ecosystem. Shopify integrates with Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Marketing Cloud through connectors and APIs, so customer, order and engagement data continues to flow. We treat the CRM integration as a first-class part of the migration rather than a post-launch task, because customer service depends on it from day one.

How are multi-site and multi-region estates handled?

Shopify Markets covers most multi-country requirements — currencies, languages, domains and pricing from one store — which replaces a significant amount of SFCC multi-site configuration. Genuinely separate brands, or markets with divergent catalogues and operations, may still justify expansion stores. We map which of your sites are markets and which are genuinely separate businesses before proposing an architecture.

What is the biggest risk in an SFCC migration?

Undocumented custom logic. Long-lived Commerce Cloud implementations accumulate behaviour in cartridges that nobody currently on the team specified, and it surfaces at launch when a rule silently stops applying. The cartridge audit exists to find these before cutover, and it is the step worth spending real time on.
