Shopify Store Build for Little Italy Barbershop

How Avelize built the Little Italy Barbershop Shopify store from the ground up: grooming and fragrance catalogue, Swedish-language storefront, and a shop that sits alongside a working Uppsala barbershop.
About Little Italy Barber
Little Italy Barbershop is a barbershop in Uppsala, Sweden, that also sells grooming products and fragrance — shaving, beard care, skincare, hair, and a curated range of brands including Nõberu Stockholm, Benjamin Barber, Proraso, Brosh, and Lattafa. The business needed an online store that could carry the retail side without pulling attention away from the chair.
The challenge
A barbershop that also retails has two customers on one site: the local client who wants to book an appointment, and the online buyer who wants a specific pomade or fragrance shipped. Most barbershop sites pick one and neglect the other — either a booking page with an afterthought shop, or a product catalogue with the barbershop buried. The store also had to be built entirely in Swedish for a local market, with a product taxonomy that made sense for grooming rather than generic retail categories.
Scope of work
- Shopify store build from the ground up — no migration, no existing theme
- Swedish-language storefront and navigation architecture
- Grooming-specific catalogue taxonomy: shaving, beard, skin, hair, fragrance
- Brand-led browsing alongside category-led browsing
- Booking path kept prominent next to the retail catalogue
- Product page templates for fragrance and grooming products
The solution
Avelize built the store from a blank Shopify install rather than adapting a stock theme. The navigation was designed around the two ways grooming customers actually search — by problem (shaving, beard, skin, hair) and by brand — so a customer looking for Proraso and a customer looking for a beard oil both land somewhere useful in one click. The appointment booking sits in the header at the same weight as the cart, so the local business is never hidden behind the catalogue. Everything is in Swedish, including the category structure, so the store reads as a local shop rather than a translated template.
Technical approach
- Clean Shopify theme build with grooming-specific section templates
- Dual navigation architecture: category tree plus brand directory
- Swedish-language storefront, checkout locale, and URL structure
- Product templates for fragrance with scent, size, and format variants
- Booking integration kept in the primary header navigation
- Image optimization across product and campaign photography
- Structured data and clean URL architecture from launch
Outcome
Little Italy Barbershop launched a Swedish-language Shopify store that carries the full grooming and fragrance range while keeping the barbershop itself front and centre. The catalogue is organised the way grooming customers browse, and the store runs on a clean theme the shop can maintain without developer involvement for routine updates.
